A brighter smile, planned for you
Professional Teeth Whitening in Maple Ridge: Safe, Fast, Actually Noticeable
Coffee, tea, red wine, and twenty years of just living, teeth pick up stains. Whitening strips from the drugstore lighten things a shade if you are lucky. Professional whitening at Cedar Ridge Dental can lift your smile several shades in a single visit, safely, with your gums protected the whole time.
A plan built around your smile
How does teeth whitening work?
Professional teeth whitening uses a dentist-strength peroxide gel that breaks down stain molecules inside the enamel, not just on the surface. We explain the full process in our guide on how teeth whitening works. Because we protect your gums and control the concentration, the results are faster and last longer than anything sold over the counter.
This is also why whitening should start with a dentist, not a strip: whitening does not work on crowns, veneers or fillings, and it stings badly on untreated cavities. We check all of that first, so you do not waste money whitening around a problem.
Professional Whitening, Step by Step
A dental check, protected treatment and controlled whitening help make the process safer and more predictable.
1Dental Check
Cavities, gums and existing dental work are reviewed before whitening.
2Protected Whitening
Gums are protected and dentist-strength gel is carefully applied.
3Stains Lifted
Stain molecules are broken down for a noticeably brighter smile.
In-office whitening vs take-home kits: which is better?
In-office whitening gives you the biggest change in the shortest time, usually 3 to 8 shades brighter in about an hour. Custom take-home kits work more gradually over 1 to 2 weeks but let you control the pace and top up later. Plenty of patients do both.
In-Office Whitening
- About 1 hour
- Immediate results
- Best before events
Custom Take-Home Trays
- 1 to 2 weeks
- Gradual results
- Reusable for touch-ups
Drugstore Strips
- Cheapest option
- Mild, uneven results
- Can leak onto gums
Dentist-supervised care
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes. When it is supervised by a dentist, whitening is safe for your enamel, a point the Canadian Dental Association also makes. The most common side effect is temporary sensitivity for a day or two, which we manage with desensitizing gel. What is not safe is aggressive DIY whitening on top of cavities or gum disease, which an exam rules out first.
- Teeth and gums checked first
- Soft tissue protected
- Whitening strength selected for you
- Temporary sensitivity managed
How long do results last?
Typically 1 to 3 years, depending on your habits. If discoloured or chipped teeth are the real concern, cosmetic dentistry options like veneers may suit you better than whitening. Touch-ups with a take-home kit take a day or two.
Limit Staining Drinks
Coffee, tea, red wine and dark drinks can fade results faster.
Maintain Daily Care
Brush, floss and keep regular dental hygiene appointments.
Use Take-Home Touch-Ups
A quick dentist-guided touch-up can refresh your brighter shade.
Is whitening right for every smile?
Whitening changes the colour of natural teeth, but it does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings. Your dentist can check your existing dental work and help plan an even, natural-looking result.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
How much does teeth whitening cost in Maple Ridge?
In-office whitening and custom take-home kits are priced differently. Call 604-463-3931 for current pricing. Note: whitening is cosmetic, so most insurance plans do not cover it.
Will whitening damage my enamel?
No. Dentist-supervised whitening does not soften or thin enamel. Temporary sensitivity can happen, but it settles within a couple of days.
Why did not whitening strips work for me?
Usually the concentration is too low, the strips do not sit evenly, or your stains are internal rather than surface. Internal discoloration needs professional treatment, sometimes veneers rather than whitening.
Can I whiten if I have crowns or fillings on front teeth?
Whitening gel does not change the colour of dental work, only natural teeth. We plan around this: whiten first, then match any new dental work to the brighter shade.
What should I avoid after whitening?
For the first 48 hours, skip anything that would stain a white shirt: coffee, red wine, curry, berries.
